The Office 5×18 – “You have no idea how high I can fly”

The Office 5×18 – New Boss

I find myself supporting and cheering Michael on almost 100% of the time these days, no matter how crazy his stunts get.  I think that’s one of the reasons I wasn’t feeling last week’s episode but actually enjoyed this week’s episode especially the end.

The Office has been hit or miss, especially lately.  And the characters have been all over the place.

Michael has been one of the few constants, the other being the always dependably hilarious Creed.

I mean, I can’t shake off the douche-y vibe from Jim ever since he’s met Karen, Dwight’s gone from funny eccentric to just crazy insane, and Angela is a full-on whore.  Meredith’s got nothing on her apparently.

The Vances in the restaurant bathroom?  Not funny and awkward in a bad way.
Taking down a nice family and their small business?  Uh, downer.

What’s up with that?

So when Michael wants a 15th anniversary party, tries to lighten up the mood, and stands up to the newly arrived spoil sport, I throw any common sense out the window and cheer him on.

Michael’s proven that there is a method to his madness.  He is a great regional manager right?  He does his job well.

So the entire scene with David at corporate was probably one of the most awesome scenes in a while.  Michael basically demanding respect for all he’s done for Dunder-Mifflin… his life for the last 15 years.
Steve Carell as Michael Scott
Steve Carell was just awesome in the scene.  The look on Michael’s face as he explained himself and then when he realized David just didn’t get it… I thought it was a great scene, especially to end the episode that seemed to just build up to that point.

“You have no idea how high I can fly.”
Funny, corny, and poignant at the same time.

Sometimes I think Michael Scott is the only good thing about the show these days, save for a couple of one-liners and Creed’s once an episode zinger.

The Office is still one of the best half-hours of funny on TV today, but I’m not rolling on the floor as much (if at all) these days. L
